At the meeting a report on the work of the IIJI since its 19th Board meeting was made, and a work plan for the year 2016 was discussed and adopted. Also an election of office-bearers of the IIJI Board was conducted.
In the report on the IIJI's work, it was introduced that during the period under review, the study and dissemination of Kimilsung-Kimjongilism was conducted in the world more actively than before through holding colorful gatherings on the Juche idea, issuing publications, organizing visiting groups to the DPRK, etc.
Similarly, it referred to the facts that during the period under review, along with the IIJI's last Board meeting, Board meetings of the Asian Regional Institute of the Juche Idea (ARIJI) and the European Regional Society for the Study of the Juche Idea (ERSSJI) were held respectively along with their respective regional seminars. Through such activities, the work system of the IIJI and the regional institutes of the Juche idea has been enhanced.
In the discussion of the work plan, proposed were some suggestions such as conducting colorful activities by forming study groups of Kimilsung-Kimjongilism among the broad masses of the people, while enrolling distinguished persons as their office-bearers, and forming a national study group in a country where different study groups have been organized locally.
Then, an election of office-bearers of the IIJI Board was conducted. Electing its director general was a most important item of the agenda of that meeting since the post had been absent because Dr. Vishwanath, director general emeritus of the IIJI Board passed away.
The 20th Board meeting unanimously elected Prof. Ramon Jimenez Lopez, director general of the Board of Directors of the Latin American Institute of the Juche Idea (LAIJI) to be director general.
All the participants in the meeting congratulated on the birth of the first director general of the IIJI Board from the Latin American region.
Also elected there were deputy directors-general: Prof. Matteo Carbonelli, secretary general of the ERSSJI re-elected, and Prof. Harish Gupta, director general of the ARIJI Board newly elected.
Newly elected Director General Ramon Jimenez Lopez is ex-professor at Mexico National Institute of Politechnic and ex-member of the Lower House of Congress of Mexico.
He was involved in forming the Mexican Committee for the Study of Kimilsung-Kimjongilism, which was what the former Mexican Committee for the Study of Kimilsungism set up in 2004 was renamed. After being elected chairman of the current committee, he guided the formation of the youth branches of the committee, thus paying attention to educating the younger generation to be reliable Juche idea researchers.
He made his possible effort to hold seminars in a successful manner in honor of Secretary General Ogami Ken-ichi of the IIJI on his visits to Mexico in 2008 and 2010, and then a regional seminar on the Juche idea in 2013. He was elected director general of the LAIJI Board in 2013 and deputy director-general of the IIJI Board in 2014.
Similarly, at the Board meeting a congratulatory address was made by H.E. Thae Hyong Chol, who is president of Kim Il Sung University and also chairman of the Korean Association of Social Scientists (KASS).
